The airbag ECU (also called the SRS module or airbag control unit) is the brain of your vehicle's supplemental restraint system. It monitors all the crash sensors, seat occupancy sensors, and seatbelt pretensioners, and decides when to deploy the airbags in a collision. When this module develops a fault, the airbag warning light comes on and the entire SRS system may be disabled.
