When a vehicle is involved in a collision, the airbag control module — also known as the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) module — can record important information relating to the impact. This information may include crash-event data, deployment records, system status and associated fault codes.
Importantly, an airbag module can store crash-related data even when the airbags themselves have not visibly deployed. Depending on the vehicle manufacturer and SRS system, the module may enter a crash-recorded or locked state and illuminate the airbag warning light on the dashboard.

In many cases, a main dealer may recommend replacing the complete airbag module once crash data has been recorded. However, replacement is not always the only technically appropriate solution. Where the original module remains electronically serviceable, professional crash-data processing may restore the module without unnecessarily replacing an otherwise functional unit.
Crash-data reset forms an important part of accident repair where the SRS module has recorded a qualifying event. However, resetting the data alone does not make a damaged airbag system safe. Deployed airbags, seat-belt pretensioners, impact sensors, damaged wiring, connectors and other SRS components must be inspected and replaced or repaired as required.
Our approach is therefore based on diagnosis first. We identify the stored faults, assess the condition of the SRS system and determine whether the module is suitable for reset or whether replacement is required.
Once the necessary repairs have been completed, the SRS system should be fully scanned and verified to confirm that communication is established, relevant fault codes have been addressed and the system is operating as intended.
