When your vehicle is involved in a collision, the airbag control module records data about the impact — known as crash data or event data. Even if the airbags didn't deploy, the module may still store this information and set fault codes that trigger the airbag warning light.

On many vehicles, once crash data is stored, the module will not function correctly until the data is cleared. The dealer solution is usually a replacement module, but in most cases, the data can be professionally cleared and the module returned to full working order.
